Unlock Your Creative Flow Through Sensory Rituals
My favorite compliment to receive is “You smell amazing.” Or even better, “Your scent lingers.” There’s something about the idea of leaving a trace—an impression that stays even after I’ve walked away. But that wasn’t always the case.
For a long time, I lived entirely in my head. Thinking, strategizing, executing. I had no real connection to my body, no awareness of what actually felt good. I wasn’t paying attention to scent, texture, or touch—I was focused on blending in, keeping my head down, dulling my appearance so I wouldn’t draw attention to myself.
I thought that as long as I was doing the right things, I was fine. But last fall, deep in idea overload, spiraling between endless possibilities and feeling completely out of sync, something shifted.
The Reawakening
A dear friend (hi, David!) invited me to a hot spring, and I didn’t realize how much I needed it until I got there.
The scent of the mineral-rich water. The warmth of the sun on my skin. The contrast of cool air against the rising steam. It was sensory overload in the best way.
For the first time in a long time, I wasn’t just doing something good for myself—I was feeling it. Experiencing it fully.
That moment reawakened something in me: the understanding that our senses aren’t just accessories to our daily practices—they amplify them. If I wanted to ground myself, sustain my creativity, and move with clarity, I needed more than just discipline and routine. I needed to engage my senses in a way that made my daily rituals feel good.
Since then, I’ve built my life around sensory rituals that bring me back to myself. And while I’ve been reluctant to share my process (because my routine is sacred), I can’t gatekeep these products any longer.
The Frequency of You: What’s in a Name?
The name Frequency of You speaks to the idea that everything starts with you. It’s about tuning into your unique rhythm, your purpose, and your creative energy. But it’s also about recognizing that you’re part of something bigger—a team, a community, a collective.
Think of it like being a team player in sports. You show up, you do your part, and you trust that your teammates will do theirs. Together, you create something greater than what any one person could achieve alone.
This framework—the connection between sensory rituals and creative momentum—is something we’ll explore together in the Q2 planning session.
It’s about more than just grounding yourself; it’s about finding the exact frequency that allows you to move through your life and work with clarity, creativity, and ease.
The Sensory Framework: Where Music Meets Ritual
Last fall, when I was overwhelmed by my own ideas, I started looking for a way to sustain my creativity and momentum without burning out. I turned to music—not just as background noise, but as a structural guide for my daily life.
I started experimenting with musical terms as a framework to help me find flow and build momentum. Over time, these terms became the foundation of the Frequency of You Pilot Program. But something was still missing.
That’s when I layered in senses and sensations. Because creativity isn’t just about discipline—it’s about feeling. Engaging my senses took these concepts from abstract ideas to tangible, grounding rituals that helped me move through each stage of my work and daily life.
Here’s how they work:
The MannyFesto of Feeling
These aren’t just random self-care products. They’re my secret weapons—hand-selected, tested, and refined to create a rhythm, a resonance, a feeling of flow.
If you’ve been feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or out of sync, I want you to find your own go-to senses and sensations that help you move through each phase of your creative process.
1. Rhythm → Building Momentum Through Consistency
What It Is: Rhythm is about finding a steady, intentional flow in your daily life.
When You Need It: When you’re feeling sluggish or stuck in inertia.
💡 My Secret Weapon: Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede Body Crème ($40)
🌿 Why It Works: The act of applying it—massaging it into my skin—forces me to slow down. The scent lingers, subtly reminding me throughout the day to keep moving.
🎵 Your Turn: What scent, texture, or action instantly shifts your energy? Try incorporating it into your morning routine to create movement.
2. Harmony → Clearing Mental and Emotional Clutter
What It Is: Harmony is about creating balance so you can stay clear and focused.
When You Need It: When you’re overwhelmed, anxious, or can’t seem to concentrate.
💡 My Secret Weapon: Love Thyself Bod Oil by Fat and the Moon ($36)
🌿 Why It Works: The warming blend of vetiver and clove essential oils grounds me. A self-massage with this oil helps me release the mental fog and reset my focus.
ALSO!!! I cannot tell you how much this product has boosted my confidence in my body—especially my legs.
This miracle oil tightens and smooths like nothing else. Cellulite? Never heard of her!!! I swear by it.
🎵 Your Turn: Find a grounding practice—whether it’s a scent, a texture, or a movement—that helps you clear space and start fresh.
3. Melody → Fostering Curiosity and Creative Flow
What It Is: Melody is about staying playful and open to new ideas.
When You Need It: When you’re in a rut, overthinking, or need inspiration.
💡 My Secret Weapon: Malin + Goetz & Phlur Perfume Discovery Sets. Each set has about eight sample perfumes, and I love mixing and matching them to see what notes work well together on my skin.
My go-to daily blend? Malin + Goetz Leather paired with Phlur Missing Person—the perfect mix of warmth, depth, and that just-lived-in comfort.
And if I’m in the mood to add a little sweetness, I’ll throw in a hint of Malin + Goetz Strawberry.
🌿 Why It Works: Blending different perfumes mirrors the creative process for me. Scent is like blending colors or composing a song—it’s about understanding the individual notes and how they come together to create something new.
I use this same approach when cooking—smelling my spices first and combining their scents to predict the final taste before adding them in. It’s all about tuning in and playing with sensation.
It’s a reminder that unexpected combinations can spark magic.
🎵 Your Turn: Engage your senses in a new way—whether it’s through scent, taste, sound, or texture—and see how it sparks your creativity. Take a moment to experiment with a combination that resonates with you, and let it guide you through your day.
4. Resonance → Staying Emotionally Connected to Your Purpose
What It Is: Resonance is about aligning with your deeper “why.”
When You Need It: When you’re feeling disconnected or uninspired.
💡 My Secret Weapon: The Brooklinen "Restore - The Reset Button" Candle
🌿 Why It Works: Lighting this candle isn’t just about setting the mood—it’s a sacred ritual. In the morning, I light it intentionally to set the energy I want to call into my space. It transforms my room into a peaceful sanctuary, grounding me for the day ahead.
When I meditate or do breathwork, if my mind starts to wander, that familiar scent instantly pulls me back to the present. It even makes me feel like I’m at a luxurious wellness retreat by the beach.
At night, I light the candle again with the purpose of release and rewind—releasing all the extra energy accumulated throughout the day. I often do this in the bathroom during a hot, sauna-like shower.
With the lights off for a bit of sensory deprivation, I speak my release affirmation, visualizing the negativity washing away, out of sight, out of mind.
After my shower, I bring the candle back to my room, take a few deep breaths, and write my gratitude for the day before blowing it out with the promise: “Today was an amazing day, and tomorrow will be even better.”
🎵 Your Turn: Create your own ritual—using scent, touch, or sound—to help you stay present and intentional. Experiment with lighting a candle or setting a similar ambiance to call in the energy you need, whether it’s for grounding in the morning or releasing the day’s overload in the evening.
