Clearing Emotional Clutter to Cross the Finish Line
The Tribe Has Spoken: Time to Let Go
We’ve all heard the phrase “let go of the past” so many times that it’s almost lost its meaning.
Usually, I just nod politely and think, Sure, sure—easier said than done.
Because let’s be honest, how do you actually let go of something that shaped who you are, maybe even protected you when you needed it most?
The Emotional Tribal Council
This Full Moon in Gemini has me looking at that question a bit differently.
Gemini, with its chatty, curious energy, is lighting up my 4th house—the part of my chart connected to home, family, and my deepest emotional foundations.
Think of it like shining a spotlight right into my emotional basement, where all those “I should be over this by now” feelings are stored.
Letting go” isn’t about pretending your past never happened. It’s about recognizing that the energy from old wounds and habits might still be holding you back, even though your life has moved on.
You’re not that same person anymore, yet the vibes of who you once were still linger, influencing your choices and reactions.
From Survivor to Amazing Race-r
Growing up, Sundays at my house were all about reality TV—first Survivor, then The Amazing Race.
Watching Survivor with my family meant everyone yelling at the screen, debating strategy, and rooting for our favorites. Survivor is intense: you rely mostly on yourself, scramble for resources, and endure tough challenges to outlast everyone else. It’s pure grit and self-preservation.
For a long time, that’s how I handled my emotional life. I was in “Survivor mode,” trying to tough it out through heartbreaks and setbacks.
When a major heartbreak hit me back in 2020, I scrambled to cope, picking up habits and beliefs that helped me feel safe at the time—like emotional band-aids. They got me through a rough patch, sure, but after the storm passed, those old habits stuck around, still influencing me long after I no longer needed them.
Then, after Survivor, we’d watch The Amazing Race—total shift in energy. It’s all about partnership, communication, and figuring things out together.
Teams navigate challenges side by side, supporting and balancing each other’s strengths and weaknesses. There’s a trust and synergy there that feels more freeing.
Instead of just surviving, you’re working with someone (or in our metaphor, working with life) to find your way forward.
Drop Your Buff: Releasing Old Patterns
This Full Moon invites me to move out of Survivor mode—where I’m constantly trying to “overcome” my past—and step into The Amazing Race mode—where I can co-create my future.
Letting go, in this context, means understanding the energy I’ve carried forward from old hurts, then choosing not to let it run the show anymore. Instead, I’m teaming up with who I am now, trusting that I don’t have to navigate life’s roadblocks alone, or rely on outdated coping tools.
And, once I realize that some old patterns are linked to a past version of me who was just trying to get by, I can give myself grace.
I can thank those patterns for helping me survive a difficult time, and then gently set them down because I don’t need them anymore.
Letting go isn’t about erasing memories; it’s about releasing the stale energy they carry, the stories I’ve outgrown.
The Roadblock: Understanding the Why
This might mean pausing when I catch myself repeating an old habit—like deflecting compliments or reaching for something that numbs me out—and asking, “Why am I doing this? What was I feeling when I first started this behavior?”
By understanding its origin, I can release the emotional charge attached to it. Without that charge, I’m free to move more lightly through my world.
This shift feels a lot like The Amazing Race: I’m no longer battling challenges alone in the jungle; I’m traveling with a reliable partner—my present self, fully resourced and more confident—navigating whatever comes next.
It’s still tricky. I still have moments where I stumble over old wounds.
But now I have the tools and the perspective to keep going, trusting that each clue, each turn in the road, leads me closer to a life built on who I am now, not who I used to be.
At the End of the Day….
Letting go doesn’t mean dismissing your past. It means dropping the old script that no longer fits, letting the stale energy settle, and choosing a different path forward.
It’s about realizing that you’ve evolved beyond those old survival tactics—and that now, you’re ready to embrace a new kind of journey, one where life is your teammate, not your adversary.
So here’s to this Full Moon in Gemini, shining a light on the cluttered corners of my internal landscape and giving me the courage to release what I no longer need.
May it help all of us shift out of survival mode and into a more open, more adventurous phase—one where we run the amazing race of life with a bit more trust, love, and room to breathe.
‘till next time,
Minhaj
